RONCEVAL
Ronceval is a very young sculptor, working between Lyon and Saint-Étienne. He began sculpting as an autodidact, which allowed him to experiment with a variety of forms without the constraints of any framework, aside from the specific technical constraints inherent to clay, which, when fired, reveals itself to be a capricious material full of surprises. Smoking the pieces, after patinating them with various metal oxides, is the technique he uses most frequently after firing. He began creating bronzes, which are very popular in our galleries. Having had a strong attachment to animals since childhood, particularly those of the African savannah, he naturally gravitated toward the animal world in his work, seeking to translate the strength and nobility of certain animals into figurative forms, but through the suggestion of clean edges, in a scratched style. With animals being more than ever victims of human activity in recent times, it seemed important to show them, through a stylized representation, in order to awaken consciences desensitized by an urban daily life from which the animal presence is often excluded.
