Mauricette TOUSSAINT

Far from traditional paths, Mauricette Toussaint chose the uncharted path of self-taught artists. In 1977, she tried her hand at wood sculpture, but after five years of practice, she realized that this technique no longer met her expectations. One thing became clear to her: it was the clay that spoke to her hands. The practice of modeling allowed her to discover a sensuality of gestures: passionate hands embracing living clay. Since 1982, Mauricette Toussaint has never ceased to endlessly explore the richness of this material. She works without a model. Her sculptures spring from an inner visualization. A search for life through all its expressions. Many women, with harmonious curves, but also a few men, happy to experience their fatherhood. A fertile, maternal body of work in which she instills a breath of tenderness, a touch of humor, mockery, and moments of gravity, a yearning for unity. Present at numerous exhibitions in France and abroad, Mauricette Toussaint continues her journey. "I love life," she says with a smile. "And that's what emanates from each of her sculptures."
